There’s a beautiful mystery that unfolds after an evening of praise and worship, like the one we recently shared in the warmth of our home group in the Upper Room. In the days that follow, the melodies and words of the songs seem to take on a life of their own, swirling and skipping through my mind with a joyful persistence. My heart is like a child on a swing, soaring high and low to the rhythm of each song, and then spinning gently on a carousel of imagery as the lyrics paint pictures in the eye of my soul.
With every turn of thought, I find myself drawn nearer to God, my spirit attuned to His presence, even in the midst of daily work. It’s as if worship spills over into the ordinary, transforming it into something sacred. The noise of the world fades, my own worries grow distant, and a deep peace and contentment settles over me like a soft cloud.
This, I think, is one of several benefits of gathering together with fellow believers. For me, song is a divine life hack: an effortless way to draw closer to God throughout the week.
The gentle afterglow lingers for days. And when it begins to dim, there’s always more fuel for the soul: worship with family, music from cherished Christian artists, or simply new songs born from the heart—something I love to do—to keep our lamps burning bright.
Of course, praise and worship is just one path to intimacy with God, but today, it feels like a sweet note worth savoring.
